Frederick County will mark the start of its 275th Anniversary year by ringing in 2023 with the annual NYE Key Drop and Candlelights on the Creek event on Dec 31st at Carroll Creek Linear Park in downtown Frederick.

Frederick County's 275 Planning Committee has partnered with the Civitan Club of Frederick and Sailing through the Winter Solstice to host this year's celebration which will include a variety of free activities, live entertainment, and food.

The event begins at 9 p.m. with free boat rides, available on a first come first service basis, aboard the U.S.S. Hamster. Firepits, table games and activities will be set up at the amphitheater on the creek from 9 to 11 p.m. Free Hot Chocolate is being provided care of Frederick County Government and food will also be available for purchase at Crazy Dave's Food Truck from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.

For Candlelights on the Creek, about one thousand candles will be handed out to guests who are asked to release the luminaries on the creek signifying remembrance, good fortune, joy, and renewed hope for a new year. Dapper DJs will provide music from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. with local band The Dirty Middle performing from 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater and City of Frederick Mayor, Michael O'Connor will give remarks before the crowd counts down to the key drop at midnight.

"2023 is going to be a big year in Frederick County! I'm excited to celebrate 275 years of rich local history and join residents as we come together to look toward our bright future," County Executive Fitzwater said.

Frederick County Public Libraries will also be celebrating with a Noon Year's Eve Celebration and Key Drop Parties for the entire family at 11:30 a.m. at the Brunswick, C. Burr Artz, Middletown, Myersville, Thurmont, Urbana, and Walkersville branches.

Frederick County's year-long 275th Anniversary celebration will commemorate nearly three centuries of history and culture with several community events and programs planned throughout year.

A 275th Anniversary commemorative book will be released in 2023 and features Voices of Frederick County in addition to ten key categories that will be key areas of focus throughout the 275th year. They are, Agriculture, Business & Economy, Changing Communities, Education, Foundations, Government, Great Outdoors, Looking Forward (Today & Tomorrow), Tourism, and Transportation.

The book will be sold at Frederick County Public Library branches in addition to other 275th Anniversary merchandise. Additional voices will be featured in a series of multimedia video pieces that will be available on our website at FrederickCountyMD.gov/275 throughout the year.
