New Evidence Demonstrates 83% of Spire RPM Patient Escalations Led to Medical Intervention

Spire Health, the leading provider of remote patient monitoring (RPM) for chronic respiratory disease patients, today announced the results of a new study on the clinical impact of RPM-based escalations. The researchers presented the data during the CHEST Annual Meeting 2022, held in Nashville from October 16-19, 2022. The study authors concluded that in 83.1% of instances where patients were escalated and seen by their provider, significant clinical action was taken to change the course of care. In the abstract, Clinical impact of escalations triggered by remote patient monitoring in COPD, researchers retrospectively analyzed the chart data of 154 pulmonary patients enrolled on the Spire RPM service for 12 months who were escalated to their provider at the Pulmonary Associates of Richmond (Richmond, VA). In 83.1% of escalations, provider encounters led to changes in medication, a referral to another physician, and/or additional diagnostic testing. This was further broken down by:

• 50.4% steroid and/or antibiotics prescribed
  
• 13.1% inhaled medication prescribed
  
• 34.5% additional diagnostic testing and/or referral ordered
