Sky's The Limit Supports Black Pound Day in the UK, Encourages Shopping Black-Owned Business to Support Black Community

The Institution Will Run UK Black Pound Microgrant to give Black Entrepreneurs Access To Funding

SkysTheLimit.org ("Sky's the Limit"), the digital community transforming the playing field for entrepreneurial success, acknowledges the extra challenges faced by Black entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs of color. In October, we celebrate Black History Month UK as well as Week October 17 – 22. Black Pound Day is on the first Saturday of the month – October 2nd.

Black Pound Day is a monthly campaign that encourages consumers to switch up their usual shopping destinations to local and online Black-owned businesses every first Saturday of the month. Spearheaded by Swiss (formerly of So Solid Crew fame), the national campaign aims to support and raise awareness for Black-owned businesses. The goal is to significantly influence UK residents' shopping habits to become more inclusive and, in turn, grow the Black economy and Black communities.

Consciously choosing to contribute a portion of our income to Black-owned businesses raises up Black communities, shifts the balance of power, and significantly alters our cultural landscape. Social media also offers a means to promote the cause: shoppers are also urged to share their purchases and encourage others to do the same on Instagram and Twitter with #BlackPoundDay.

At Sky's the Limit, we understand only too well that under-resourced entrepreneurs face additional hurdles when it comes to successfully starting and scaling their businesses. This is the raison d'être for the organization. As an organization centered around lifting up and supporting entrepreneurs, Sky's the Limit recognizes the many talents and gifts that Black entrepreneurs bring to the table and welcomes everyone to join their free platform to connect with a community of like-minded entrepreneurs and receive mentorship, coaching and links to business resources and funding.

To acknowledge Black Pound Day this month, we're launching a UK Black Pound Day Microgrant competition to offer Black entrepreneurs a new funding opportunity and will provide more details and a link to the opportunity in early October.
