TORONTO, Jan. 5, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Jumpstart Refugee Talent, a national refugee-led organization, is excited to announce a multi-year $500,000 community partnership investment from ScotiaRISE, Scotiabank's 10-year $500 million initiative that aims to promote economic resilience among disadvantaged groups.

ScotiaRISE's support will help remove employment barriers for refugees and foster their economic resilience. It will also allow Jumpstart Refugee Talent to expand the delivery of innovative employment supports to refugees across Canada over the next two years.

Refugees confront numerous and unique barriers to employment as they rebuild new lives in Canada, often facing underemployment rates more than double that of the national average. By implementing new approaches to employment support, and exclusively working with refugees rather than all immigrants, Jumpstart and Scotiabank aim to increase and accelerate refugees' access to meaningful employment opportunities.

"Scotiabank's investment in a refugee-led organization is indicative of the Bank's position at the forefront of innovative social impact and community investment. Not only is Scotiabank supporting disadvantaged groups, but it is empowering community-led organizations to serve their own communities. When it comes to serving refugees, women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, youth or other marginalized communities; the response should ideally come from folks within those communities. 'Nothing about us without us' should really be a mantra that funders, service providers, and policymakers adopt in their approach to supporting disadvantaged groups." said Mustafa, Managing Director of Jumpstart Refugee Talent.

"We are proud to support Jumpstart Refugee Talent and their effort in helping refugees recreate a quality life in Canada," says Maria Saros Vice President & Global Head, Community Investment Strategy & Communications at Scotiabank. "ScotiaRISE recognizes it is critical to find meaningful work for starting a new life, and we are committed to helping remove barriers to career advancement for disadvantaged or underrepresented groups like refugees."

Jumpstart Refugee Talent is a national refugee-led nonprofit focused exclusively on serving refugees seeking meaningful economic inclusion. Founded in 2016, Jumpstart focuses on the economic empowerment of newly settled refugees across Canada by facilitating meaningful employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.
