PITTSBURGH, Oct. 27, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Bourbon connoisseurs know Bulleit for its bold, spicy flavor and smooth, clean finish. They may not know the whiskey company's commitment to sustainability, which includes using local, natural resources to make the bourbon that goes in every barrel.

This weekend, Tomorrow's World Today field reporter Darieth Chisolm visits the Bulleit Distilling Co. in Shelbyville, Kentucky, to learn how Bulleit combines the traditional whiskey-making process with modern science focused on sustainability.

"Bulleit is committed to paving the way to a more sustainable future for our industry and the communities we serve; it's imperative that we take actionable steps to protect our environment," said Sophie Kelly, senior vice president of whiskey, Diageo North America. "Our passion for sustainability can be seen at Bulleit Distilling Co. in Shelbyville, where we focus on reducing carbon emissions, water conservation and waste management during production. Our Visitor Experience is eliminating single-use plastics and sourcing organic cocktail garnishes from our onsite garden. And, at our new Lebanon distillery, no fossil fuels will be consumed for the production of Bulleit."

Chisolm learns Bulleit's sustainability practices include: reducing its carbon footprint by striving to source corn from within 30-miles of the distillery; using solar energy to help run the electric vehicles such as forklifts on-site; and, focusing on water conservation and protecting the surrounding wildlife and habitats.

Bulleit Distilling Co. is a zero-waste-to-landfill site. It has been recognized for its sustainability efforts, including receiving in 2020 the highly commended mark in the Sustainable Distillery of the Year category from Whisky Magazine. Bulleit also recently announced a partnership with American Forests to plant 1-million white oak trees over the next five years.

Tune in on Saturday, October 31 at 8:30 a.m. ET/PT on Science Channel and on Sunday, November 1 at 6:30 a.m. on Discovery to learn more about Bulleit Distilling Co.'s sustainability efforts.
