DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ‍Spoonflower, the world's largest custom fabric, wallpaper and home decor digital marketplace, announced today the celebration of its 500th weekly design challenge and recognition of the winners. Launched on March 3, 2010, Spoonflower's design challenges source a fresh collection of unique designs in the marketplace, curate a targeted set of designs based on the latest trends and spotlight new artists in the creative community. The challenges also provide nearly 4.5 million makers with a fresh assortment of designs; enabling real-time assortment refreshes for their Etsy shops or ecommerce sites.

Design challenges include a wide variety of themes from calendar tea towels to cut-and-sew toys to microorganisms and national parks. Each week, hundreds of designs are submitted and the community votes on their favorites; driving engagement across artists, makers and consumers craving to see the newest designs from their favorite shops.

For the 500th theme,Your Artistic Voice, Spoonflower asked artists to share a design representing their signature style and creative contribution to the world. From pop art to Polish folk art, toile to Ukranian Petrykivka, the submissions showcased the breadth and range of the independent designers. We're thrilled to recognize the following top three winners of Your Artistic Voice:

"The weekly design challenge is a great regular practice for expanding creativity as well as developing an artist's unique style and voice,"said Elmira Lukmanova, first place winner, designer of Zen Jungle. It's always so amazing to see how many beautiful ideas can grow within the theme provided, to develop friendships through online critiques, to then recognize artists by their own unique styles because of these authentic interactions."

"I love Spoonflower challenges because I learn something new each time. The challenges give me a lot of exposure both among customers and other artists which has helped me to ultimately drive more sales," said Katerina Kirilova, second place winner with her design Red poppies on cornflower blue.

"Spoonflower challenges have been the single most important part of my career. I have truly been challenged to stretch past my limits, and the variety of themes has made for a ridiculously diverse portfolio which has broadened my ability to attract more business customers. The biggest bonus is the fabulous friendships made along the way," said Kate Rhees, third place winner for her design, Peepers!

Artists earn commissions each time their design is sold through Spoonflower's print-on-demand fabric, wallpaper and home decor product marketplace. With the triple-digit growth experienced this year, Spoonflower artists have seen record increased commissions of 135% as reported in the Q2 growth announcement.

"The artist community is the heart and soul of Spoonflower, and I'm constantly in awe of the talent we see across the thousands of members who participate each week in the challenges and the conversations shared over Instagram and Facebook", commented Sarah Ward, SVP of Brand Marketing at Spoonflower. "It's even more special that our 500th challenge marked the highest number of designs ever submitted along with a record number of votes - over 81,000."

In over a decade of weekly design challenges, Spoonflower has awarded nearly $300,000 in prizes to artists who rank in the top 50 highest voted designs. Design challenges have become so popular, brands such as Hilton Hawaiian Village, Skillshare, Nugget Couch and Betabrand have tapped into the artists' talent to generate original artwork for their products and services.
