KIRKLAND, Wash., Aug. 20, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- For the fourth time, Lake Washington Institute of Technology's (LWTech) TRIO program has received a renewed Student Support Services grant from the U.S. Department of Education for $536,733 for an additional five years. LWTech's TRIO program provides tutoring, financial literacy and academic advising to more than 300 students who are low-income, first-generation (neither parent nor guardian has a bachelor's degree and neither does the student), or are students with disabilities.

Additionally, LWTech will be starting six new academic programs this fall. Two Applied Bachelor's degrees in Applied Management – Entrepreneurship, and Funeral Service Education; two Associate's degrees in User-Centered Design and Baking Arts; and two Certificate of Completions in Funeral Attendant and Business Management.

LWTech now offers 10 Applied Bachelor's degrees, the most of any technical college in the state of Washington. To celebrate the addition of the two newest Applied Bachelor's degrees, LWTech is waiving the application fee ($50 savings) for those who apply to those two programs for fall quarter.

New program development and grants aren't new to the college. For more than 70 years, LWTech has provided innovative programs and support services so students are prepared to succeed in the workforce. With more than 6,000 students who attend LWTech each year, 81% of LWTech students are employed within three quarters of graduation, and 97% of students say they would recommend LWTech to their friends and family.

"As one of the state's 34 public community and technical colleges, LWTech prepares students today's workforce. With so much uncertainty in the world right now, one thing that is certain is that our graduates are prepared to grow their skills or change careers, whether in STEM fields like Engineering, Nursing, or Biology, or the trades like welding, auto repair and machining technology. Our innovative approach to providing online and face-to-face instruction ensures our students are fully prepared for their career," commented Dr. Amy Morrison, president of LWTech.

Registration is open for fall quarter!
