ActiveState Celebrates Strong Year of Open-Source Languages Leadership

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- ActiveState today announced another strong year to add to its 21-year leadership trajectory in open source. Highlights this year include continued strong revenue growth, nearly 100 percent renewal rate, a SaaS Platform launch and a survey of developer open source runtime pain points.

Earlier this year, ActiveState introduced a SaaS offering, the ActiveState Platform, to leverage the company's core business in language distributions of Perl, Tcl, Go and Python. The ActiveState Platform offers Python runtime verification and expands the company's free and paid language distribution offerings. This new offering is aimed at solving challenges companies suffer with polyglot environments.

ActiveState also enabled its vetted language builds to be picked up through the new platform and migrated all customer accounts to it, to allow existing customers to benefit from its abilities. Platform account holders can pick up their builds, order specific packages and even eliminate packages from pre-defined builds as desired. Today, more than 2,400 customer accounts are on the new ActiveState Platform.

Additional milestones for the year include:

• Strong executive team: The executive team, announced earlier this year, includes members of the Stackato team (Bart Copeland, Maria Chu, Angie Hirata) that defined the private Platform-as-a-Service market. Scott Robertson returned to the company to take on the roles of Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering. Jeff Rouse, Vice President of Product, and Sandra Wear, Vice President of Marketing, are new additions to the team.
• Customer Advisory Group: ActiveState launched a Customer Advisory Group (CAG) with the kickoff of its first annual Customer Summit. The CAG includes customers such as Altair Engineering and Mentor, a Siemens business. The CAG will help inform the product roadmap and provide deeper understanding of the challenges posed by deploying polyglot environments at scale.
• Survey: The company conducted the 2018 Developer Survey, Open Source Runtime Pains to better understand the challenges developers face. The full findings are available here.
• Category Creation: ActiveState announced the creation of the Open Source Language Automation (OSLA) category to enable organizations to realize more value from open source programming languages and fuel companies' success with open source deployment.
