SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Sept. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Carefully inspecting personal care and household products to avoid certain ingredients is a part of everyday life for the more than 30 million Americans living with eczema, a non-contagious, inflammatory skin disease characterized by red, itchy, flaky or inflamed skin.

Vague or deceptive product labels make it challenging for people with eczema to avoid purchasing items that contain ingredients that may trigger their symptoms. The National Eczema Association (NEA) is helping to ease that challenge by relaunching EczemaProducts.org, our redesigned, mobile friendly, searchable database of products that have earned the NEA Seal of Acceptance™.

NEA's Seal of Acceptance™ program was developed in 2008 to make it easier for adults with eczema or parents of children with the disease to find products suitable for caring for eczema or sensitive skin because they have satisfied the NEA Seal of Acceptance™ criteria.

These products were reviewed by NEA's Seal of Acceptance™ Review Panel, whose criteria includes a list of ingredients that should be avoided because they may be irritants. Depending on the product, the Panel considers testing data on sensitivity, safety and toxicity as well as the ingredients, content and formulation data.

There are more than 200 items currently listed on EczemaProducts.org from moisturizers and sunscreens to shampoos and laundry detergents, with new products being added on a regular basis. Visitors to the site can limit their search to a particular category, brand or whether it's for children or adults. There's even an option to exclude certain ingredients in the search for those who are aware of specific allergies.
