Integrated, turnkey solution extends secure wireless communications for the warfighter

PORTLAND, Ore. (PRWEB) September 24, 2018

PacStar today announced a collaboration and reseller agreement with Bivio Networks that will help power the PacStar Secure Wireless Command Post (TLS) – a fully integrated, expeditionary communications solution providing two layers of encryption, using commercial technologies, eligible for use in transmitting classified information over wireless networks. PacStar will leverage the Bivio Networks TLS Protected Server to provide a layer of TLS encryption for classified communications. The integrated solution will be unveiled and demonstrated at Modern Day Marine, which takes place September 25-27, 2018 in Quantico, VA.

Last year, PacStar launched its pioneering PacStar Secure Wireless Command Post (Wi-Fi) to provide high-speed wireless for mobile devices, at Wi-Fi distances, typically a few hundred feet. The addition of Bivio Networks TLS-based encryption makes it possible for the PacStar SWCP to offer LTE radio support. LTE enables warfighter mobility at much greater distances, measured in thousands of feet or several miles from the cellular base station – much like consumers are able to roam using LTE for daily activity.

To deliver these new capabilities, PacStar combines innovation from PacStar's core hardware, software, network systems and cybersecurity engineering teams, with technology from several enterprise-grade networking/communications OEMs –integrated into a complete, turnkey solution. Bivio Networks provides a key component, the Bivio Networks TLS Protected Server. Bivio Networks TLS Protected Server performs the infrastructure-side encryption functionality for one layer of the SWCP (TLS) data-in-transit. This encryption functionality, when matched with the SecureIO client from Perspecta Labs (formerly Vencore Labs) secures data over wireless connections for one layer of the two layer PacStar SWCP (TLS) system.

With this integration, the system is able to secure classified information over any type of radio infrastructure including LTE and Wi-Fi, for Android phones. Bivio Networks has completed common criteria evaluation on PacStar 451 Server, and is eligible for use in solutions for classified networks.

"Bivio Networks technologies are a key part of PacStar SWCP (TLS), and help us create our secure wireless turnkey solution. With the TLS encryption layer in place, we're able to expand our capabilities beyond Wi-Fi, providing more radio options for the warfighter – with increases in range and mobility," said Peggy Miller, chief executive officer at PacStar.
"We are pleased to offer an integrated, certified product with PacStar," added Keith Glover, president at Bivio Networks. "Offering Bivio's technology on PacStar 400-Series hardware enables us to expand our reach from high-performance enterprise use cases to the tactical edge of the network."

PacStar will conduct live demonstrations of the PacStar SWCP (TLS) at our booth (#1366) at Modern Day Marine 2018.
