Former Attorney General To Speak At FHU|Dickson

Former United States Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales will be the guest speaker during the American Values Forum in March. The event will raise scholarship funds for students completing their degrees at Freed-Hardeman University in Dickson.

Former United States Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales will speak Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the American Values Forum in the Performance Hall of the Renaissance Center in Dickson. The event is designed to raise scholarship funds for students finishing their college degrees at Freed-Hardeman University/Dickson.

Gonzales, appointed by President George W. Bush, was the first Hispanic attorney general. He had also served as general counsel to Bush when he was governor of Texas, and he was a justice of the Texas Supreme Court. He is currently the dean and Doyle Rogers Distinguished Professor of the College of Law at Belmont University.

Son of a construction worker in Houston, Gonzales was also a member of the U.S. Air Force and attended the Air Force Academy. He graduated from Rice University and received his law degree from Harvard Law School.

Prior to Gonzales' address, Erabellas, a vocal trio based in Nashville, will entertain. Influenced by bluegrass, folk and country, the group showcases an Americana sound with original music and crowd-favorite covers.

The presentation by Gonzales will be done in an interview format with FHU President David Shannon and Dr. Bob Spencer, director of the nursing program at FHU/Dickson, asking the questions. Ted Williams, president of Tri-Star Bank and vice president of the FHU Board of Trustees, will be the master of ceremonies.

FHU/Dickson is the only baccalaureate educational institution in Dickson County. It provides junior and senior level classes for transfer students and graduate degrees for those who have already completed baccalaureate degrees. Bachelor's degrees are available in elementary education, business management, accounting, psychology, social work and nursing. Additional information may be found at fhu.edu/Dickson.
