Kazuo Ishiguro Wins the 2017 Nobel Prize for Literature

TORONTO, Oct. 5, 2017 /CNW/ - Penguin Random House Canada is thrilled to announce that Kazuo Ishiguro has won the 2017 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Upon receiving the news of the award, the acclaimed English writer said, "This is amazing and totally unexpected news. It comes at a time when the world is uncertain about its values, its leadership and its safety. I just hope that my receiving this huge honour will, even in a small way, encourage the forces for goodwill and peace at this time."

Kazuo Ishiguro was born in Nagasaki, Japan, in 1954 and moved to Britain at the age of 5. He is the acclaimed, award-winning author of 7 novels: A Pale View of Hills (1982), An Artist of the Floating World (1986), The Remains of the Day (1989, and a major film nominated for 8 Academy Awards), The Unconsoled (1995), When We Were Orphans (2000), Never Let Me Go (2005, also a major award–winning film) and, Nocturnes (2009), his connected stories collection. His seventh and most recent novel, The Buried Giant, was published in 2015.
