Greiner Packaging recognized for fostering next generation of advanced mechatronics technicians by receiving certification from the State of Pennsylvania for its Greiner GOLD Apprentice Program.

Greiner Packaging Corp., one of the leaders in innovative packaging solutions, announced today that it is has received certification from the State of Pennsylvania for its Greiner GOLD Apprentice Program.

The successful Greiner GOLD Apprentice Program is a partnership between Greiner Packaging and Luzerne County Community College. The program offers participants a combination of class-based and in-house training for a three-year program that includes a two-year Advanced Mechatronics degree combined with a three-year apprenticeship program now recognized by the State of Pennsylvania. The program is offered on a yearly basis to a select group of qualified applicants.

Pennsylvania State Certified Apprenticeship programs provide opportunities for Pennsylvanians to receive high quality training and instruction in family-sustaining occupations. This model has proven effective for many years in the state. Pennsylvania has been promoting and establishing the standards for apprenticeship programs since 1961. Registered apprenticeship programs are a time-honored means to meet the skilled workforce needs of employers in numerous industries and occupations.

Pennsylvania Governor, Tom Wolf, recently visited Greiner Packaging as part of his "Jobs That Pay" tour. During his visit, Governor Wolf highlighted the Greiner GOLD Program and Greiner's commitment to providing apprenticeship opportunities that focus on hands-on skills training.

The Greiner GOLD program commenced in the Pittston plant during the Fall of 2016 with two apprentices, and two more will join the program in the Fall of 2017. "This program has proven to be successful in our other locations in other countries resulting in highly skilled and dedicated employees," said Katherine Gallagher, human resources manager for Greiner Packaging's Pittston plant. "As we continue to grow here in Pittston, we envision the Greiner GOLD program will also grow with us."
