George will be firing up his engine for the last time in his career when he competes in the last Formula Drift event of the season, Sept 8-9.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) September 07, 2017

For racer Danny George, it's appropriate that his birthday be 4/20, after all, the Las Vegas native was the first to have a cannabis sponsor on a professional race car. When George left for Forth Worth and the Texas Motor Speedway Tuesday, he was bringing with him the first car to have a cannabis sponsor and some much-needed supplies for the Hurricane Harvey Flood victims.

George's race team is part of the relief effort along with members of Team Rubicon, the veteran-based disaster relief organization, and his sponsor, Shango Premium Cannabis. George will be packing up donations for flood victims and he and his crew will be off to Texas Tuesday night.

"We wanted to personally assure bringing these much-needed items directly to flood victims." George said. "I wanted to do something where you get to see the results. This is my gift back to the great race fans in Texas."

George's last race will take place at the famous Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth Sept. 8-9. He is currently ranked 12th of 32 drivers in his division.

The first three years George raced on the Formula Drift circuit, he relied on donations. He was deemed "The People Champion" by his peers and fans even though he never won a Formula Drift race, competing in the toughest class. His Miata was the first to make the top 16 twice.

"Winning is overrated," he joked. "My goal was to win over the fans."

After three years with the Miata fueled by fan donations, he took a year off. He said he would only return with a major sponsor. He then reached out to Shango.

"I wanted to be the first to have a cannabis sponsor," George said.

For Shango owner Brandon Rexroad, the sponsorship brought visibility to a new audience.

"We have received a tremendous amount of support and positive feedback," Rexroad said. "This was a perfect partnership to kick off the uncharted territory in cannabis and sports relationships. As Shango continues to grow, we will be aggressively investing our brand in areas where cannabis has never gone before," said Rexroad.

Formula Drift professional racing series popularizes drifting, a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, causing loss of traction in the rear wheels or all tires while maintaining control of the car through the entirety of a corner. As one of the fastest growing motorsports disciplines, drifting competitions launched in Asia in the 1970s. Competitions are held worldwide and are judged according to the speed, angle, showmanship and line taken through a corner or set of corners.

"In Formula Drift, money doesn't guarantee a victory," he says.

When George made the decision to return to racing, he had to have the right sponsor. "I want to thank Brandon for giving me the opportunity to have the first car to be sponsored by a cannabis company in a competitive professional racing series," George said. "I was thrilled to have had Shango Premium Cannabis wrapped around my car. We made history."
