Sanpower Group Completes the Acquisition of Dendreon from Valeant

NANJING, China, June 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sanpower Group, a Chinese private conglomerate, announced the completion of its 100% acquisition of Dendreon, from Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. VRXVRX

for $819.9 million in cash. Dendreon's core product, PROVENGE, is the first and only FDA-approved cellular immunotherapy for prostate cancer.

PROVENGE was officially approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration in April 2010 for treatment of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). More importantly, PROVENGE, for the first time, has systematically and clinically proven that immune system can effectively curb tumors and prolong life expectancy, thus opening the door to immunotherapy.

PROVENGE has treated more than 20,000 patients since its entry to the US market in 2010, and its efficacy and safety have been fully confirmed. PROVENGE is reimbursed by the vast majority of insures, including Medicare contractors and commercial plans.

Sanpower Group intends to maintain the continuity of Dendreon's US team, and facilitate the company's continued steady growth through a number of approaches.
