Stop The Vape Ban Coalition Kicks Off Campaign In Support Of the FDA Deeming Authority Act of 2017 (H.R. 1136)

The Stop the Vape Ban Coalition has kicked off a campaign in support of the FDA Deeming Authority Clarification Act of 2017 (H.R. 1136). The goal of the Stop the Vape Ban campaign is to increase awareness about recent FDA regulations that will result in a virtual ban on vaping products.

Today, the Stop the Vape Ban Coalition kicked off a campaign in support of the FDA Deeming Authority Clarification Act of 2017. This bipartisan legislation (H.R. 1136) was introduced on February 16, 2017 by Representatives Tom Cole (R-OK) and Sanford Bishop (D-GA) and fixes FDA regulations that result in a virtual ban on vaping products.

The goal of the Stop The Vape Ban campaign is to increase awareness about recent FDA regulations that will result in a virtual ban on vaping products. The Coalition supports a sensible legislative solution rather than a harsh virtual ban as indicated by the FDA's deeming regulations, which treat vapor products worse than cigarettes.

If left unchecked, the existing regulations will take away adult consumers' right to choose to Vape and close thousands of small businesses.    

Lyle Beckwith, NACS' senior vice president of government relations, explained that the initiative provides an easy way for adult vape consumers and retailers to speak directly to their elected officials and to share why this is an important issue to them. "We support sensible regulations proposed by Representatives Cole and Bishop rather than more burdensome and costly regulations that will inevitably lead to a virtual ban on vaping products."

Unless Congress takes action soon, newly issued FDA regulations could make it nearly impossible for most vapor products to stay on the market.

According to Representative Tom Cole, "This legislation preserves the FDA's ability to regulate these products on par with cigarettes, grandfathers currently available products and then requires the FDA's approval before any new product is introduced."
 
Representative Sanford Bishop goes on to say that, "Vapor products offer a promising path for harm reduction for those seeking to quit or limit their smoking.  This legislation would ensure the FDA's regulatory process does not limit the availability of safer tobacco options for those seeking to make use of them."
