The California Council on Problem Gambling (CCPG) announces that four casinos achieved recognition as certified responsible gaming establishments in 2015, thanks its supporters for their contributions, and reminds the public that no-cost treatment is available for anyone affected by gambling problems.

Temecula, CA (PRWEB) January 29, 2016

The California Council on Problem Gambling (CCPG) announced today that four California casinos achieved recognition as certified responsible gaming establishments in 2015. The certified casinos include Viejas (ninth consecutive year), San Manuel (ninth consecutive year), Pechanga (fifth time) and Redwood Hotel Casino (second consecutive year).

The certification, which is granted based on a casino's adoption and adherence to a comprehensive program of responsible gambling policies and procedures, signifies a casino's commitment to the issue of problem gambling and ensures that its patrons are made aware of resources available to help them should they develop a gambling addiction. The program is also designed to limit the likelihood of guests developing a problem.

The term problem gambling encompasses both individuals who lose the ability to control their gambling behavior for a period of time, as well as those who have a gambling addiction in which they are unable to control their urge to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. It's estimated that 3.7 percent of adults in California (about one million people) struggle with problem gambling, a treatable condition, each year.

"No-cost treatment programs are available in California for those suffering from gambling problems," Robert Jacobson, Executive Director of the Council says, "And it all begins by calling the California Problem Gambling helpline, 1-800-GAMBLER." The helpline provides confidential crisis intervention and referral services, and is available 24/7/365. The helpline provides in-language services in English and Spanish, translation services for more than 240 languages, and TTY for the hearing impaired. Text support can also be obtained by texting the word "SUPPORT" to 53342.

CCPG thanks its supporters, including the United Auburn Indian Community, Barona Band of Mission Indians, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, Blueworld360 and the California Lottery.

CCPG is a non-profit organization, founded in 1986, dedicated to assisting problem gamblers and their families by promoting awareness, education, research, prevention and treatment for problem gambling. CCPG is one of 36 state affiliates of the National Council on Problem Gambling.
