Bluegreen Vacations Hosts South Florida Diversity Council Meeting to Discuss Gender Differences in Communication and Leadership Styles

Bluegreen Corporation Hosted the South Florida Diversity Council, where the "invisible barriers" between men and women in communication were discussed.

Bluegreen Vacations, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bluegreen Corporation BXG hosted the South Florida Diversity Council's monthly meeting On Wednesday, February 13th at their corporate office in Boca Raton, Fl., where gender differences in communication and leadership styles were discussed. About 40 people attended.

Mary L. Martinez, Diversity and Inclusion Practice Leader for Apt Metrics and Education Chair for the Council, shared a video of Dr. Pat Heim, who addresses the topic in a lecture setting, raising awareness as to how we can better understand the “invisible barriers” between men and women when it comes to communication and the roles we play in our professional lives.

“Dr. Heim made many interesting points on the difference between women's' natural tendencies to build relationships, creating a flat playing field, and men's' natural tendencies to work in hierarchies,” said Bluegreen Associate and meeting attendee Yahnia Rodriguez. “It's valuable information for myself as a mother, in determining what I teach my daughter about relationships and the work place, when the time comes.

Dina Winger, Corporate Inventory Supervisor for Bluegreen was also in attendance. As an emerging leader of the company, Dina said she decided to attend because she was curious about the Diversity Council and the topic was interesting to her. It was something she could use to directly influence her team for the better, she said.

“Diversity and Inclusion are two very important values I have as a leader,” Winger said. “The more I can learn about best practices, the better I am for my team.”
