RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Elster ELT today announced that Peterborough Utilities, a water and electricity utility for the City of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, selected Elster to supply Aztech In-Home Displays (IHD), enabled by Elster's EnergyAxis® system, to provide their customers with real-time information on their energy consumption.

The Aztech IHD communicates directly with Elster's EnergyAxis Smart Meter network, providing homeowners with real time energy usage data. The Peterborough Utilities deployment of in-home displays is part of the Ontario peaksaver PLUS® initiative and is a benchmark event in providing high volumes of AMI network connected real-time usage information to customers.

Peterborough Utilities is a multi-utility that has deployed residential and commercial water and electricity meters. By using the Aztech IHD enabled by Elster, Peterborough Utilities will provide customers with timely and accurate information on their electricity usage and detailed notifications with time-of-use periods as well as easy-to-read screen displays.

"The solution works wirelessly with the existing Elster meters that we have installed," said David Whitehouse, Director Customer and Corporate Services and Conservation Officer, Peterborough Utilities.

"The Elster network has been very impressive, allowing us to leverage this investment for significant customer benefits. The information on the display provided to the customer is generated from actual metering information used in billing. We are also able to make adjustments to time-of-use periods and will be able to make changes to IHD rates through our network so no customer intervention is required," Whitehouse added.

"Elster is pleased to assist Peterborough with this important and forward-thinking initiative," said Jack Robertson, vice president and general manager, Elster Metering Canada.

"Having already implemented Elster metering solutions for electricity and water, Peterborough understands the benefits of leveraging this investment for a better customer experience and reduced cost," Robertson added.
