MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Marcus Theatres®, a division of The Marcus Corporation MCS, is bringing a new dining and movie entertainment concept to the Southridge Mall property this summer. Called BistroPlex, the building will feature eight in-theatre dining auditoriums with DreamLounger℠ recliners, including two SuperScreen DLX® auditoriums with oversized screens and heated seats, plus a separate, full-service bar/lounge for a complete dining and moviegoing experience under one roof.

Marcus Theatres began construction in the fall of 2016 on the 1.74-acre lot on the northeast corner of the Southridge Mall parking lot. The 40,000 square-foot facility is the company's first BistroPlex, which is designed to transform each auditorium into a fun and full-service entertainment venue complete with food and beverages, a server, comfortable recliners and a movie.

"As a leader and innovator in hospitality and entertainment, Marcus Theatres is excited to introduce a new concept that puts more emphasis on the dining experience," said Rolando Rodriguez, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Marcus Theatres. "Instead of adding an amenity, like in-theatre dining, to an existing auditorium, BistroPlex creates a new and amazing dining experience in every auditorium in the building. Throughout the entire complex, guests will remember the food as well as the movie."

Appetizers, sandwiches, pizza, desserts, drinks and more – that's just a sampling of the tasty food and beverage options that will be a part of BistroPlex. Marcus Theatres' executive chef is currently putting the finishing touches on a new menu that will complement the in-theatre dining experience, as well as the bar/lounge.

"The addition of BistroPlex brings a unique dining and entertainment experience to the area," said Todd Michaels, village manager for Greendale. "The investment shows a commitment to rebuilding the community and its offerings, plus, this new complex will create more than 150 jobs. We appreciate the partnership with Marcus Theatres on this project and what it will bring to the surrounding neighborhood."

Beyond food and beverage, moviegoers will enjoy a variety of amenities, including:

  • Comfortable DreamLounger recliners in all eight auditoriums with double the legroom between the rows. Guests can go from a seated upright position to a full recline at the touch of a button.
  • Individual side tables, which allow guests to enjoy a personal dining experience with their movie in every auditorium.
  • Of the eight auditoriums, two are the SuperScreen DLX® experience with oversized screens and heated DreamLounger recliners that turn on or off with the push of a button. In addition, these auditoriums feature Dolby® Atmos® multidimensional sound with speakers along the front, back, sides and ceiling of the room for an immersive audio experience.

Another feature of BistroPlex is its ability to provide group entertainment. This location offers an environment perfect for group movies, in-theatre meetings, team building and other events. Business or private events can be customized and hosted at this facility, and special promotional packages will be part of the offering at this complex.

Popular movie theatre snacks like popcorn, candy and soda will be available at BistroPlex, but not through a traditional concession stand. Guests will simply place their order for these favorites with their server, who will deliver food, beverages and concessions items directly to their seats.

"The BistroPlex concept is described by its name," said Rodriguez. "A bistro is known as a small restaurant and ‘plex' means the movie and dining is woven together as an experience throughout every auditorium in the building. There's also a bar/lounge as part of the complex, where guests are welcome to enjoy food and beverages before and after their show. At Marcus Theatres, we are committed to creating a more comprehensive moviegoing experience for our theatre communities. We are excited to see guests' reactions to this enhanced entertainment destination."
