Marshall Mathers' Sweet 16: Eminem Sells Childhood Home By Pieces

Detroit’s beloved Eminem has found an unusual way to celebrate the 16th anniversary of the release of his Marshall Mathers LP album. On top of re-releasing a cassette version of the record, the Grammy and Oscar winning rapper has decided to sell a large selection of rare, limited-edition collectible items, including parts (bricks and wood) of his childhood home.

"Today is the #MMLP 16th anniversary! In 2013 we revisited my childhood home for the sequel and later had the opportunity to put together some once in a lifetime collectables created from the remains of what has become a very iconic symbol for me and my career," he said in an Instagram FB post.

For those thinking Eminem must be in trouble again… Well, he’s not. This sale looks more like a celebration than a pawn situation. “It's unlikely the move is for financial reasons given Eminem's back catalogue and smart business investments,” BBC reporter Nesta McGregor assured.

Speculation aside, what’s important today is that Shady’s fans will be able to own a piece of his childhood home in Detroit, featured on Marshall Mathers LP’s cover – and where many lyrics were written.

However, people should notice that Eminem will not tear down his house to sell it by parts. The property was, in fact, demolished in 2013.

Marshall Mathers LP was produced by the legendary Dr. Dre and Eminem, and released on May 23, 2000, by Aftermath Records, Interscope Records and Eminem's Shady Records in the United States. All three companies now owned by Vivendi SA (ADR) VIVHY’s Universal Music Group.

Polydor Records, also a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, was in charge of the U.K. release on September 11, 2000.
