Humana Foundation Donates $100,000 to Support Those Impacted by the California Wildfires

Humana also has help available for members, employees, brokers, and the community at large; includes expanding access to crisis hotline and free counseling

The Humana Foundation and Humana Inc., one of the nation's leading health and well-being companies, announced a series of efforts to assist its members, employees and communities in California impacted by the Camp, Hill and Woolsey wildfires.

The Humana Foundation announced it will provide a $100,000 donation through Feeding America®, a national partner and the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. The funds will be split between two Feeding America member food banks: the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano and FOOD Share, Inc., Ventura County's food bank. In addition, Humana will match donations made by its employees to non-profits providing support for the California wildfires.

Humana has also opened its toll-free crisis intervention hotline and counseling services beyond employees and health plan members to include any individual who may need help and support coping with the wildfires.

Humana has counselors and work/life specialists available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-888-673-1154 to provide free, confidential assistance to anyone needing help and support in coping with the disaster and its aftermath. Assistance is available in both English and Spanish.

"Catastrophic events like the California wildfires can take a serious toll beyond the physical destruction. Humana is committed to the health and well-being of our members, employees and the community, which is why we are making this grant donation and opening up our toll-free, confidential crisis intervention hotline with access to one of our counselors," said Rick Beavin, California Medicare President for Humana. "In addition, it's important that our health plan members know we are fully committed to providing uninterrupted coverage and services."

Humana has also taken these additional steps:

• Humana is waiving all requirements for primary care physician (PCP) referrals and prior authorizations for members that identify themselves as being impacted by the fires in counties declared disaster areas.
• Providing members who need to seek care out-of-network with the same cost-sharing they would receive from an in-network health care provider or facility.
• For members with a pharmacy benefit, suspending restrictions on refills to allow for travel difficulties and evacuations.

Humana is conducting outreach to members in impacted areas of the counties to let them know how to access care and get help if they are affected by these wildfires.
