Online Public School Provides Educational Option for Students in Grades K-12

Iowa Virtual Academy (IAVA), an online public school program of the Clayton Ridge Community School district, welcomes families to enroll for the 2019-20 school year. Currently in its seventh year of operation, IAVA offers a public school at home tuition-free program to students in kindergarten through 12th grade who reside anywhere in the state.

IAVA provides families and students an alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar education. Students enroll in online school for a variety of reasons, including advanced learning, a bullying-free environment and the ability to balance their education with extracurricular pursuits or medical needs. For many students, IAVA offers an education they wouldn't otherwise have access to, and graduates have gone on to attend top higher education institutions in Iowa and beyond.

"At IAVA, we recognize that each student learns in different ways," said Steve Hoff, head of school at Iowa Virtual Academy. "Learning is not one-size-fits-all. Our online platform provides a learning environment that meets the unique needs of each student."

Combining innovative technology with a rigorous and engaging curriculum led by state-licensed teachers, IAVA offers each student a personalized learning experience. Students across all grade levels take a full course load in the core subjects of math, history, English/language arts, music, art and physical education, as well as electives and world languages. In addition, Advanced Placement® courses are available for high school students.

IAVA's dedicated teachers facilitate lessons during live, interactive online classes, allowing students to enjoy a safe learning environment anywhere with an internet connection. In addition to scheduled classes, teachers offer one-on-one instruction and support, online chat sessions and family phone calls to build close partnerships in support of academic success.

Throughout the school year, IAVA fosters a sense of community through in-person field trips and social outings and celebrates graduating seniors with an in-person commencement ceremony in the spring. Virtual clubs and organizations also allow students to further explore shared interests together in an online setting.

Students interested in enrolling in IAVA must submit an application before the state's open enrollment deadline of March 1, 2019 (September 1, 2019 for kindergarten). During the enrollment period, interested families are invited to join live, interactive online and in-person information sessions conducted by a learning coach to learn more about the online school.
