Russian President Prefers This 'Politician Of Old School' In 2024 Biden-Trump Rematch: 'More Experienced, Predictable Person'

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his preference for Joe Biden over Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election.

What Happened: Putin, in an interview with Pavel Zarubin, was asked to choose between Biden and Trump, to which he promptly responded, “Biden,” citing the President’s experience and predictability, reported Reuters.

“Biden. He is a more experienced, predictable person, a politician of the old school.”

Putin’s remarks are particularly significant given the current state of U.S.-Russia relations, which are at their lowest point in over six decades. This is largely due to the Western response, led by Biden, to Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, which included the expansion of the NATO alliance and the imposition of multiple rounds of sanctions on Moscow.

Despite the ongoing tensions, Putin stated that Russia is willing to work with any U.S. President, regardless of their political affiliation. “But we will work with any U.S. president who the American people have confidence in,” he said smiling slightly.

Putin’s comments come at a time when the U.S. is facing significant political uncertainty, with the 2024 election race expected to be a rematch between Biden and Trump.

Why It Matters: Putin’s preference for Biden over Trump is particularly noteworthy given the latter’s controversial statements and actions regarding Russia and Ukraine. In a previous interview, Trump boasted about his close ties with Putin and offered to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours if re-elected. According to Real Clear Politics, at the national level, Trump held 74.3% support among GOP voters, while Nikki Haley trailed with 18.1% support.

He also refused to call Putin a war criminal despite an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for Putin’s involvement in the deaths of thousands of civilians in Ukraine.

More recently, Trump’s controversial remarks about NATO have sparked concerns among Democratic lawmakers, with some calling for additional measures to safeguard NATO if Trump were to be re-elected.
