iPhone 16's Secret Button Sparks Excitement: What's Apple Hiding?

Apple Inc. AAPL might introduce a new Capture Button in the upcoming iPhone 16, but this could also be a hint at a major camera feature.

What Happened: The new Capture Button on the iPhone 16 will facilitate video recording, hinting that this could be one of the main highlights of Apple's next flagship.

In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggested that the Capture Button would serve as a specific tool for video capturing.

The button will replace the mmWave antenna on the bottom right side of the iPhone 16. The antenna will be relocated to the left side of the device, under the volume and Action buttons.

The Capture Button will also offer haptic feedback and incorporate a force sensor for pressure recognition, which could enable users to initiate video recording by pressing and holding the button.

It might also support photo or spatial video capture, although this is speculative at this point.

All variants of the iPhone 16 will include the Capture Button, streamlining and enhancing the video recording process. Paired with the Vision Pro headset‘s capability to play 3D spatial videos recorded on the iPhone, Apple’s video recording technology is taking a significant leap forward.

Why It Matters: Earlier this year, a leak hinted at the iPhone 16 featuring an additional button and a relocated mmWave antenna.

The exact purpose of this button was unknown at the time, but rumors suggested it could be a dedicated capture button. This new report suggests Apple could have also made significant progress in its video recording technology.

Apple is expected to power up iPhone 16's video recording capabilities, hoping it could become one of the primary content sources for the $3,500 Vision Pro headset.
