Cybertruck Named 'Disruptor Of The Year' Ahead Of Delivery Event: 'Elon Musk's Stainless Steel Cyberpunk Fantasy'

Ahead of the highly anticipated Cybertruck delivery event from Tesla Inc TSLA Thursday, the electric pickup truck received an award from a top automotive entertainment company.

What Happened: First unveiled in 2019, the Cybertruck is one of the most anticipated vehicle launches of all time.

On Thursday, Tesla will celebrate its first deliveries with an event at its Giga Factory in Texas.

The Cybertruck was named "Disruptor of the Year" by Top Gear, a leading automotive entertainment company in its annual awards list.

In a video announcing the award, Top Gear editor-in-chief Jack Rix called the Cybertruck a vehicle that took "edgy to a whole new level.

"Elon Musk's stainless steel Cyberpunk fantasy," Rix said of the Cybertruck.

Rix said the Cybertruck was a vehicle he didn't believe was ever going into production, but was now a reality.

The Top Gear personality also said the popular British auto media outlet was able to film some footage with the Cybertruck that would be released in the coming days.

Other awardees from Top Gear included Lamborghini winning Manufacturer of the Year, the Toyota Land Cruiser winning Design of the Year and the Kia EV9 winning the Family Car of the Year Award. The Car of the Year award went to the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The upcoming Ford Mustang GTD from Ford Motor Co F was named the car Top Gear is most looking forward to driving in 2024.

Red Bull Racing Chief Technology Officer Adrian Newey won the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to Formula 1.

Why It's Important: Tesla said the Cybertruck had more than one million reservations before the vehicle's launch. Third-party estimates put reservations closer to two million.

While Tesla CEO Elon Musk cautioned about having too high expectations for early production of the vehicle, the Cybertruck was expected to hit 250,000 vehicles produced annually by 2025.
