Lucid Motors Forges Strategic Partnership With Mohammed Bin Salman Founded Riyadh Air

Luxury EV maker Lucid Group Inc LCID has partnered with Saudi Arabia-based airline Riyadh Air, which was founded by the Kingdom’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

What Happened: “Introducing our pioneering new partnership with Lucid Motors, as we unite with a shared vision to drive innovation and sustainability into the future,” Riyadh Air wrote on X, formerly Twitter. The post was adjoined by a picture of Air sedan wrapped in the same indigo livery as Riyadh Air and positioned with the company’s aircraft. “If you think technology can’t break new ground, think twice,” the post added.

Riyadh Air is Saudi Arabia’s new airline wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF). Though Lucid operates in the U.S., it is also 60% owned by the PIF. The PIF has invested about $5.4 billion into Lucid since 2018. In September, Lucid also opened a new EV manufacturing facility in Saudi.

Why It Matters: Riyadh Air was launched in March 2023 and is set to take off in 2025. The airline and the EV maker has signed a memorandum of understanding and are exploring collaboration across co-marketing, commercial and operational streams for targeted guests and travelers.

At the Dubai Airshow which started on November 13th and will go on till 17th, two Lucid Air cars are wrapped in the Riyadh Air livery at the Riyadh Air pavilion while three mobilized Air cars transport visitors to and from the airshow.

“Lucid Air is the longest range, fastest charging and most powerful luxury electric car in the world,” Riyadh Air said in a statement.
