Gavin Newsom To Host 'Super' Fundraising Event For Joe Biden And Kamala Harris In California For 2024 Re-Election Bid

California’s elite are preparing for a grand fundraising event in San Francisco with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, aiming to bolster their reelection efforts with a multi-million-dollar boost.

What Happened: The fundraiser is being orchestrated by California Governor Gavin Newsom and is expected to rake in at least $3 million, POLITICO reported, citing two people familiar with the planning.

The “super event” is scheduled to take place alongside the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference next week.

Biden’s campaign has remained silent on the details of the event, which will be joined by local notables, including Clint and Janet Reilly. Clint Reilly, a former political consultant, is now a prominent figure in real estate and media.

Why It Matters: The fundraising event takes place against the backdrop of recent swing state polls indicating that Biden is falling behind the Republican counterpart, Donald Trump, in the upcoming elections next year.

Despite growing concerns within the party, Biden’s team has predominantly resisted the idea of raising alarm bells. The gathering in the Bay Area is strategically organized to exhibit the campaign’s strength, aiming to achieve a total fundraising goal of $2 billion.

The gathering is also a reunion for Newsom and Harris, who have a long history of mutual support in their political careers.

Having already secured over $1 million in small-dollar donations and $3 million from previous events, Newsom is a key fundraising ally for Biden. The California governor is joined by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker as top surrogates for the Biden-Harris campaign.

Meanwhile, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) reportedly called out Newsom for allegedly running a shadow presidential campaign for 2024. During an address at the Iowa Democratic Party dinner on Saturday, Fetterman said, "There are two additional Democrats running for Pennsylvania, excuse me, running for president right now."

"One is a congressman from Minnesota, the other one is the governor of California, but only one has the guts to announce it," Fetterman added.
