Customizing The Cybertruck? Tesla Spotted Testing Colorful Wraps On Its Iconic Truck

A bright and colorful Tesla Inc. TSLA Cybertruck prototype was spotted by a user on X, formerly known as Twitter, leading to speculations that the car manufacturer might introduce factory wraps for the model, Electrek reported.

What Happened: This comes as a surprise as Tesla has typically steered clear of applying wraps or camouflage on prototypes, but has recently started doing so on its Cybertrucks.

The dynamic wrap, a divergence from the standard stainless steel appearance of the Cybertruck, could be a means of personalizing the vehicle since painting is not feasible for this model. However, the time-intensive nature of applying wraps would necessitate automation if Tesla decides to undertake factory wraps. The question remains if Tesla will offer these wraps or leave the field open for third-party vendors.

The theory that the wraps could be a part of Tesla’s testing rather than a camouflage strategy ahead of the vehicle’s formal release is gaining traction. This is primarily due to the recent sightings of Cybertrucks sans wraps or camouflage. With the Cybertruck delivery event expected in the forthcoming weeks, Tesla’s stance on the wraps should be unveiled soon.

Why It Matters: Tesla CEO Elon Musk had previously stated in December 2021, that while there are no immediate plans to offer any color wraps for its Cybertruck, there are many third-party options for wrapping.

Then, in June 2023, vehicle graphics company Wrapmate launched a wrap configurator for Tesla’s upcoming Cybertruck, offering nearly 100 wrap options. The wraps, to be made using 3M Wrap Film, would be available in various colors, textures, and finishes, and could be applied to Cybertrucks nationwide.

These developments, along with the recent sighting of a colorfully wrapped Cybertruck, could signal that Tesla is reconsidering its position on offering factory wraps for the Cybertruck, a move that could significantly enhance the model’s customization options.
