Elon Musk: SpaceX Could Have Double The Number Of Satellites In Orbit As Rest Of Earth Next Year

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has rendered more clarity to his own timeline for the company achieving certain milestones.

What Happened: SpaceX has more active satellites in orbit than the rest of Earth combined, Musk said in 2022. The company is tracking to have as many satellites as double the rest of the Earth soon, he then said.

Musk on Monday elaborated on the comment and said, “Probably next year.”

With the updates available thus far at hand, it indeed seems plausible.

Updates Thus Far: In August, Musk said that SpaceX is tracking to lift 80% of all mass to orbit, China 10% and the rest of the world 10%. This is in line with Musk’s 80% payload goal he announced as early as March this year. “Provided there is no serious launch anomaly, SpaceX will deliver 80% of Earth's payload to orbit this year," Musk then said.

The company is eyeing over 90 launches this year, way higher than the 61 launches it completed in 2022. Earlier this month, Musk also said that the company is aiming for 10 Falcon flights in a month by the end of this year and then 12 per month next year.
