"The rate of firearm possession in the United States is high," the Government of Canada's travel information page notes.

"Incidents of mass shootings occur, resulting most often in casualties. Although tourists are rarely involved, there is a risk of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Why It Matters: Gun violence incidents have been on a rapid rise in the U.S. in recent years. Over 200 mass shootings were recorded in just the initial five months of 2023, per the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit organization monitoring patterns of gun violence.

Meanwhile, Canada has also been grappling with its own challenges related to gun violence. While not as prevalent as in the U.S., instances of gun-related crimes and violence have been a looming concern for the officials.
