Putin Targeted In Overnight Ukraine Drone Strike, Says Kremlin: 'Planned Terrorist Attack'

Russian President Vladimir Putin was allegedly targeted in a Ukrainian drone attack while he was in the Kremlin last night.

What Happened: Calling the alleged attempt a “planned terrorist attack”, the Kremlin said it was aimed at assassinating the president, said Russian state news outlet RIA.

“Two unmanned aerial vehicles were aimed at the Kremlin. As a result of timely actions taken by the military and special services using radar warfare systems, the devices were disabled, the report said.

Russia also warned that it reserves the right to retaliate, it added.

Russian officials reportedly said Putin was safe and there was no material damage to the buildings in Kremlin. The president was working in his residence near Moscow in Novo-Ogaryovo.

“The Kremlin has assessed these actions as a planned terrorist act and an assassination attempt on the president on the eve of Victory Day, the May 9 Parade,” the RIA report said.

Al Jazeera reported about an unverified video circulating on Russian social media showing pale smoke rising behind the Kremlin palace in the walled citadel.
