Elon Musk's Relationships With Other Nations 'Worthy Of Being Looked At,' Says Biden

Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk's relationships with other nations are worth being examined, President Joe Biden said on Wednesday.

What Happened: Biden made the comment at a news conference when he was asked if Musk's purchase of Twitter with the help of a Saudi Arabian group should be probed, reported Reuters.

“I think that Elon Musk’s cooperation and/or technical relationships with other countries is worthy of being looked at,” said Biden.

“Whether he is doing anything inappropriate, I’m not suggesting that. I’m suggesting they’re worth being looked at.”

Why It Matters: Saudi Arabia's Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud is reportedly one of the parties that shored up cash for Musk's purchase of Twitter.

There are concerns that other countries could attempt to control speech online after Musk purchased the platform, noted Reuters.

Tesla also operates an auto factory in Shanghai, China, which reportedly made up for half of the company’s deliveries last year.

The entrepreneur suggested last month that Taiwan and China should figure out a ‘special administrative zone' for the self-ruled island. An arrangement China uses to administer the former crown colony of Hong Kong.

A former adviser to President Donald Trump said in October that it was "very clear" that  Musk was “transmitting a message for Vladimir Putin” after news emerged that the Tesla CEO had talked with the Russian president.

Musk denied discussing Ukraine with Putin and said the subject matter of the discussions was space.
