Another Yahoo Hack: 1 Billion Accounts May Have Been Compromised

Yahoo! Inc. YHOO announced that more than one billion user accounts may have been stolen by hackers in August 2013, in what could be the biggest hack of all time.

Sound familiar? This is a separate hack than the one the company announced in September, when 500 million user accounts were hacked, right around the time Verizon Communications Inc.VZ acquired the company's assets for $4.8 billion.

“Yahoo has taken steps to secure user accounts and is working closely with law enforcement,” the company said in a press release. Yahoo hasn't been able to identify the intrusion associated with the theft.

Verizon has said it will review the impact of this development before reaching any final conclusions.

Shares of Yahoo were down 2.5 percent in Wednesday's after-hours session..
