United Technologies' Unit Buys License For Structural Health Monitoring System From Metis Design

Share:

United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX)'s unit, UTC Aerospace Systems, has acquired license for the MD7-Pro digital structural health monitoring (SHM) system from Metis Design Corporation. The company believes it would support the aerospace industry's growing requirement for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) applications.

UTC Aerospace said the MD7-Pro system was the most advanced SHM product available currently. The company also pointed out that its pulse-echo technology was the best suited one for aerospace applications.

The company's President, Sensors & Integrated Systems, Justin Keppy, commented, "We are pleased to move forward with this new technology as we start to offer Structural Health Monitoring to our customers."

UTC said SHM is a natural extension of its leading Health and Usage Management Systems (HUMS) capabilities. The company's use of the MD7-Pro system would improve its current HUMS systems by adding SHM to its portfolio of health management solutions.

UTX traded up 0.46 percent on Wednesday.
