Kanye West's 2 A.M. Webster Hall Concert: 'Word-Of-Tweet' Gone Awry

After a bout of thunderstorms Sunday shut down the third day of the Governor’s Ball 2016 in New York City, Kanye West planned a pop-up performance at Webster Hall in East Village.

More than 4,000 people appeared to see him perform songs from his newest album, “Life of Pablo.” Tickets to the 21+ show sold out within the hour after the show was announced.

Around midnight, West posted on Twitter Inc TWTR announcing the show was officially sold out; It got more than 8,000 retweets in nine hours.

Fans stuck in the mob outside the venue in East Village, tweeting videos of people jumping on top of cars, rooftops, and dumpsters to escape the chaos ensuing on the streets.

The venue cancelled the show, likely due to the overwhelming crowds and lack of planning. West eventually appeared at the scene around 2 a.m., and several fans have posted videos and pictures spotting West hanging out of his convertible.

West is notorious for having a huge social media presence and this is an example of “word-of-tweet” gone awry.
