spiked more than 6 percent Friday morning after prominent neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta tweeted there is now a "ray of hope" for millions of people that are suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease.
Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics is a biotechnology company developing adult stem cell therapies for debilitating neurodegenerative disorders, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and Parkinson's disease (PD). Gupta's tweet included a link to an article he had written on Everydayhealth.com. The doctor detailed a trial at the Mayo Clinic that that uses stem cells harvested from a patient's own body fat that are grown in a dish then injected into the spinal fluid. The trial is still in the first phase, but there is hope that this treatment can slow or even halt the disease's progression, marking a huge step forward in managing the disease. Shares of Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics traded recently at $4.55, up 5.3 percent.
