do anything to get in the news
. At least today's announcement is for a good cause and not simply another excuse to send out a press release. Starting today, the aforementioned toy companies will double every $5 Toys for Tots donation made by members of LivingSocial Families (U.S. only). The doubling will continue up to the $1 million mark. Not surprisingly, LivingSocial provided a few supportive quotes in its press release announcing the program. “Holiday giving couldn't be any easier this year,” Lt. Gen. Pete Osman, USMC (Ret), President and CEO of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, said in the company release. “Working with LivingSocial not only means a more convenient way to donate, but also provides a new way to encourage its millions of members to support Toys for Tots.” Osman is right about that. While LivingSocial may only be looking at the bigger picture (as too many companies do), this venture will no doubt increase consumer awareness of the toy donations program, and hopefully encourage more people to donate. “We are proud to help Toys for Tots serve kids in need,” added Susan Tynan, General Manager of LivingSocial Families, also quoted in the company release. “Our members can quickly and conveniently donate online or through the LivingSocial app during the holidays – no matter how busy they are.” Since 1947, Toys for Tots has provided gifts to more than seven million kids in more than 700 U.S. communities. With more than 16 million U.S. children currently
living in poverty
, Toys for Tots hopes to help as many kids as possible this Christmas.
