LivingSocial - Better Publicity Through PR Redundancy?

Here's a way to guarantee you'll eventually get your name in the news: send out a press release every single day. Since Tuesday, that's just what LivingSocial has been doing. It started with hype for new instant ordering and delivery features (which, according to the release, “allow[s] members in D.C. to easily order food for pickup and avoid long lines during the lunch or dinner rush”). Next, LivingSocial sent out another PR on purchasing trends, explaining which items are going up (football ticket sales are up 411%, apparently), all the while reminding consumers of the LivingSocial name. Today, the daily deals site is hyping the launch of called “Instant Escapes,” a new service aimed at consumers who need to make a last-minute trip out of town. “Instant Escapes puts LivingSocial at the forefront of innovation in the travel industry and is a true win-win for both our members and our travel partners,” Doug Miller, Senior VP of LivingSocial's new initiatives, said in today's release. “Instant Escapes inspires our members to seek new experiences and gives them the flexibility to enjoy a nice weekend getaway when they've found some unexpected free time, while it also gives our merchants the ability to quickly and easily fill unoccupied rooms during unexpected slow periods.” Sounds like a bunch of typical hype to me. But here I am, posting about it anyway. Ahh, repetition. You sly, effective beast. Follow me @LouisBedigian
