Immigration Enforcement Will Lead to Better Economy

Here's a novel solution to the unemployment crisis: stop hiring illegal immigrants in place of Americans. End result? More Americans are employed and less illegal immigrants running around the country. Win/win? It sure seems like it. At least one political reform group agrees with me. According to their website, the Federation for American Immigration Reform is "a national non-profit, public-interest, membership organization of concerned citizens who share a common belief that our nation's immigration policies must be reformed to serve the national interest." What a novel idea — American laws designed to support Americans and American interests. You know, like every single other country in the world is allowed to do. But here, we have left-wing pinheads who scream "racism" every time anyone suggests that maybe it's a bad idea to let anyone and everyone shuffle over the border and set up shop in the closest shanty-town. Unfortunately for those of us who live in reality, illegal immigration brings with it all sorts of problems for the American workforce — even in cities as far away as Boston or Philadelphia. Why? Let's see what FAIR had to say about it. "The presence of a large illegal workforce perpetuates a vicious cycle as degraded work conditions discourage Americans from seeking these jobs and make employers more dependent on an illegal foreign workforce. America's massive low-skill labor force and illegal alien population allow employers to offer low pay and deplorable conditions." Right now, the unemployment rate is around 10%. TEN PERCENT. Some estimates point toward a real unemployment rate of closer to 20%. Think of all the jobs that Americans could do, but won't, primarily because the industry has been taken over by (essentially) a black market. Farming, for one, could provide jobs. Are they great jobs? No. But, given the choice between eight hours a day behind the counter at McDeathBurgerWorld or eight hours in the open air and sunshine, picking lettuce or tomatoes, would anyone really choose the fast food joint? Well, they might right now, because illegal immigration is tolerated, and the farming industry thrives on this ridiculously cheap labor and the substandard working conditions it brings with it. Hell, the farming industry says it can't survive without this cheap labor (in addition to billions in subsidies, which is horse manure). They also have tremendous backing of (of course) Democrats in Congress and in the Obama Administration. "Few citizens express interest, in large part because this is hard, tough work," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsak said this June. "Our broken immigration system offers little hope for producers to do the right thing." Their answer? Go after the farm companies and fine those who hire illegal immigrants, either purposefully or on accident. Here's a better idea. Build a fence. Actually patrol the border. Keep people out who do not belong here, and kick those out who we find here illegally. (The key word being "illegal".) This will force the farming companies to pay livable wages, and follow the same labor laws as the rest of the country, to get workers. Will it cost a little more for our food? Sure. Is that any worse than Bernanke's stupid quantitative easing plans, which keep driving up the cost of commodities (like food)? At least this plan will also decrease unemployment. So let's go, America. Get serious about immigration reform and get the economy back on track.
