BuzzFeed News' John Paczkowski recently claimed that Apple TV, a product Apple Inc. AAPL is rumored to be developing, won't be able to play 4k videos, but will be restricted to 1080p.

Michael Andronico, associate editor at Tom's Guide, was on CNBC Monday to discuss why Apple might be foregoing 4k and the effect that could have on sales of the rumored Apple TV.

Focus On Great Content Vs. High Resolution

"4k technology is a super high resolution, something that's almost 4 times as sharp as what you might be used to seeing on a standard high definition TV," Andronico said. "You are talking about movies and TV shows that have tons of details and just really vibrant colors. It really is the sharpest picture we have seen yet on any type of mainstream entertainment."

He continued, "I think the reason Apple might be choosing to forego 4k is because the next Apple TV, I think that Apple is really thinking of focusing on providing great content..."

Won't Affect Sales

Andronico was asked if sales of the rumored Apple TV will be affected due to not supporting 4k format videos. He replied, "I certainly don't think the lack of 4k will affect Apple TV sales.

"I think the consumer that's shopping for Apple TV isn't concerned with 4k output. They are more concerned about the software: Can this machine run Netflix and Hulu and all my favorite entertainment apps?"
