Unilever's Kees Kruythoff Talks Magnum Prospects In The Ice Cream World

Kees Kruythoff, President of Unilever's UN North American division, appeared on CNBC's Squawk Box to talk ice cream. Of the company's over 400 brands, ice cream is one of its biggest businesses. Unilever holds various forms of the sweet frozen treat including the popular and fast growing, Magnum brand--the number one ice cream in the world.

"The market leader in the world in ice cream came to the biggest ice cream market in the world two years ago, and so Magnum is now here in the U.S.," Kruythoff said in regards to the ice cream brand's place in the United States ice cream space.

Not only does Unilever have the fastest growing brand in ice cream, but according to Kruythoff, the company, in total, holds 22 percent of the ice cream market--the largest share of the mainly fractured landscape.

Currently, Unilever is the world's largest ice cream producer. Its ice cream brands include Starbucks, Heartbrand, Klondike, Popsicle, Breyers, and Ben & Jerry's.

He joked that Magnum Gold, the next variant in the Magnum family, is as good as gold.

He also noted the healthier ice creams it's launching including various bars made with fruits, milk and other healthier options.

He called the weather a hot topic, saying that the total market goes down when colder weather kicks in. That, however, doesn't put the melt to its success.

"The market is growing all around the world," Kruythoff said.
