Zinger Key Points
  • As director for Worldpay, Mina Khattak is instrumental in its goal of bringing Web3 payments to everyone.
  • Worldpay projects that digital wallet usage in e-commerce will grow to 56% by 2026.

Mina Khattak is the director of crypto and emerging business at Worldpay, a project of FIS, a leading provider of technology solutions for merchants, banks and capital markets firms globally.

FIS is a Fortune 500 company, a member of the S&P 500 Index and is betting big on digital wallets and solving the global need for digital payments through Worldpay.

Worldpay’s vision is to be the most progressive and reliable payment partner, and Khattak is leading the charge as an active advocate and evangelist for wallet-based digital payments. She will be a speaker at Benzinga's Future of Digital Assets on Nov. 14.

A recent report conducted by FIS showed that digital wallets will grow to 54% by 2026 as the leading payment method for e-commerce, with fintech companies, traditional banks, neo banks, big tech and original device manufacturers (ODMs) competing to serve customers as wallet providers. At the same time, the use of cash for Point-of-Sale (POS) transactions has continued to drop from 19% in 2019 to just 16% by 2022.

Khattak is an avid leader and spokesperson for the digital payment revolution.

“Web2 organizations are trying to figure out how they can build in this space. A big lever for growth is having Web2 organizations actually adopt the ability to leverage this technology natively. Worldpay works with banks all over the world to process money flows,” Khattak said in a video interview with Bitcoin Magazine.

“Web2 companies may not have the risk appetite or the expertise to build natively, so Worldpay goes to market with partners. We’ve seen difficulty with the need for clear regulation to handle the flow of money.”

Khattak is responsible for leading strategy and go-to-market efforts for Worldpay in cryptocurrency, handling marketing, partnerships, and product roadmap. Worldpay supports 300 payment types in 140 countries and 126 currencies on POS devices and mobile devices.

Why Mina Khattak is someone to watch in Web3: Khattak cut her teeth working with the global consulting company McKinsey & Company and has turned her considerable abilities to helping Worldpay achieve its vision and bring improved payment systems to people worldwide.

Paytech and global payment systems serve some of the most essential use cases in Web3, helping people transfer value and make transactions. For some, this might mean reduced fees and increased speed and convenience. For billions of unbanked and 1.4 billion underbanked people, a wallet-based payment system is a life-changing improvement.

Khattak is a member of Women Who Crypto. She received the Director of the Year Award (2023) by the European FinTech Awards and was recognized among The Most Influential Women in Payments (2023) by American Banker and the UK Global Talent Visa (2021), issued by Tech Nation.
