U.S. stocks traded higher midway through trading, with the Dow Jones index gaining over 450 points on Tuesday.

The Dow traded up 1.07% to 43,951.84 while the NASDAQ rose 0.71% to 19,770.38. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.85% to 6,047.41.

Utilities shares surged by 1.6% on Tuesday.

In trading on Tuesday, energy shares fell by 0.6%.

D.R. Horton, Inc. (NYSE:DHI) reported better-than-expected first-quarter results.

Sales fell 1% year-over-year to $7.61 billion, beating the consensus of $7.08 billion. EPS was $2.61, beating the consensus of $2.44.

Asian markets closed mixed on Tuesday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 gaining 0.32%, China's Shanghai Composite Index falling 0.05%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index climbing 0.91% and India's BSE Sensex falling 1.60%.
