Michael Douglas Thinks Wall Street 2 Will Flop, I Disagree

Michael Douglas thinks that the current financial crisis will cause his new movie to flop, according to Showbizspy.com. In my opinion, he couldn't be more wrong. The Hollywood legend fears the movie-going public won't want to see the movie 'Wall Street 2' because fiscal woes are in the news everyday, both in the United States and across the globe. “In one way it’s good because this movie is timely,” says Douglas. “But in another way it’s not so good. I’m just glad we’re coming out. You really don’t want to be having your movie on the news every night. People think they’ve seen the movie already!” I think Douglas is ignoring some crucial points. Hollywood is notorious for being an escape from reality, and well written dramas that have enticing plots, known actors, and esteemed directors tend to do well in any economic climate. I think a stylized, perhaps over the top version of today's economic woes definitely has the potential to woo audiences to see the movie. Movie goers like Douglas. He is a steady actor who doesn't say too many outlandish things like some other "stars" (Mel Gibson, you listening??). Shia LaBeouf has been a pretty bankable star in his early career, with movies such as the Transformers series and Disturbia already under his belt. Oliver Stone has done fairly well for himself, despite being known for saying some things that might get him into hot water every now and then. Movies such as 'Born on the Fourth of July', 'JFK' and 'Any Given Sunday' are some of America's best hard and in-depth looks at what really goes on behind the TV screens and sugar coated media reports. I know that when I saw the trailer for 'Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps,' I was more excited to see it than I have been to see a movie in a long time. Remember Mr. Gordon Gekko, Wall Street can laugh at itself and it has some pretty deep pockets. I think the box office will do just fine. You know why? Because greed...is good.
