FTC To Host Second Fintech Forum; Peer-To-Peer Payments And Crowdfunding In Focus

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced this week it will hold its second ever FinTech Forum on October 26 and heavily focus on crowdfunding and peer-to-peer payment systems.

The event will take place at the FTC's Constitution Centers offices in Washington, DC.

The FTC said that these two topics are becoming of "increasing interest" to consumers, and its event will bring together perspectives from across the landscape and feature separate panels exploring each topic.

Crowdfunding refers to an organization using an online platform to fund a project or venture by reaching out to a large number of people who will then decide if they want to donate money to the cause.

Peer-to-peer payment systems allow consumers to enter into a financial transaction with other consumers directly. Two of the most notable names in the space include LendingClub Corp LC and Lendingtree Inc TREE.

The forum will also explore how the FTC Act and other relevant consumer protection laws might apply to companies that operate in these areas.

Potential panelists can email relevant information to fintechseries@ftc.gov by August 31, 2016.

A full schedule and other relevant details will be released shortly. It is however free and open to the public and no pre-registration is required.
