QUEEN CREEK, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Campbell Faulkner, the 10-year-old who inspired Chicago Cubs' slugger Kyle Schwarber to don a green wristband during the World Series, will be the guest of honor as Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA) and Insight Academy of Arizona's (ISAZ) celebrate the grand opening of their third blended learning center. Faulkner, a fifth grader at AZVA and resident of Queen Creek, as well as his parents, will be on-hand to speak about Campbell's friendship with the MLB player and about what online learning has meant in the student's journey in dealing with a rare mitochondrial disease.

"This is an outstanding form of learning for Campbell and thousands of other students who deal with serious disabilities on a daily basis," said Carrie Faulkner, Campbell's mother. "Since Campbell began at AZVA, he hasn't missed a day of school. He loves his teachers and can't wait to log-on every day and learn."

The Queen Creek Blended Learning Center (QCBLC) will serve as an onsite facility for additional learning for more than 4,500 students across Arizona who already benefit from the rigorous online curriculum that AZVA and ISAZ have to offer. The center will serve students in grades 4 -12 and is available to students enrolled at AZVA or ISAZ, both tuition-free online public schools.

"Blended learning centers provide the best of online and face-to-face instruction," said Kelly Van Sande, head of school at Arizona Virtual Academy and Insight Academy of Arizona, who is available for interviews about Faulkner's online learning experience at AZVA. A tour of the facility will be also offered, as well as STEAM club activities.

The Phoenix Business Journal ranked AZVA 38th among the top 50 public high schools in Arizona based on 2015 SAT scores.
