Award winning author David Hearne receives praise and recognition at the New England Book Festival for his winning novel, "The Christmas Special."

Houston, Texas (PRWEB) February 01, 2015

Award-winning author David Hearne of Lumberton, Texas, was pleased to be among the recipients of the 2014 New England Book Festival awards. The historic Omni Parker House Hotel in Boston, MA served as the venue for the New England Book Festival's award ceremony. Hearne's winning epic novel, “The Christmas Special,” is a Romeo and Juliet love story intertwined with a tale of a group of Islamists who carry out a series of devastating terrorist attacks on Christmas morning. The prime targets of the terrorists were three nuclear power plants, which included New York's Indian Point Nuclear power plant, New Orleans' Waterford III and San Onafree, located not far from San Diego. "The Christmas Special" offers a fascinating glimpse at a cataclysmic collision of culture, religion, politics, a crippled legal system and the love between two naïve young teenagers. Hearne's utterly fascinating novel prevailed over hundreds of other books submitted for the annual contest.

John E. Roper of “The US Review of Books” stated, “Hearne's novel offers a thought-provoking and chilling look at how a group of terrorists could make previous attacks in America seem simply like a warm-up act for a deadly concert of attacks. Poignant, disturbing, and superbly written, Hearne's tale deserves shelf space beside some of the best thrillers on the market. Recommended by the USR.”

Hearne noted, “It was somewhat strange to be in Boston and receive an award for a novel about terrorist attacks when this city has had the bad luck of being in the center of America's two most infamous attacks.”

Hearne is the author of three other books: "Hulagu's Web," "Bloodstained Tales of Sin and Sex," and "Enable Command Performance." His Novel, “The Christmas Special,” has won 5 awards; four of them in America and one given at the British Library in England. His book of short stories, "Bloodstained Tales of Sin and Sex,” has won awards from the Press Club of Southeast Texas and from the 2014 Halloween Book Festival in Hollywood, CA. David Hearne is currently working on a book about the Vietnam War and the deadly Battle of Xom Bo II fought during the 1967 summer of love.

The event's venue, the Omni Parker House Hotel, has had a long history of being involved with literary events and famous authors - Charles Dickens read his "Christmas Carol" there in 1867 to an overflowing crowd, and Mark Twain, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. were frequent guest of the hotel.
