Alibaba To Nose Out Baidu In FY15 Mobile Revenue

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd BABA will nose ahead of Baidu Inc. BIDU in the race for mobile ad revenue market share in China this year, according to a research report issued Tuesday. The companies will each retain roughly 30 percent of the market for mobile ad revenue in China, even as that market posts total growth of 90 percent. According to the forecast, from the market research company eMarketer, Alibaba will take in $4.75 billion in the mobile ad segment this year, up 117 percent from $2.19 billion a year earlier. Baidu will reap revenue of $4.53 billion from the segment, up 79 percent from $2.53 billion in 2014. Alibaba posted about $8.46 billion in 2014 revenue, versus $7.91 billion for Baidu. In the wider, digital ad revenue space, Baidu will retain a 30 percent market share this year, with revenue of $9.43 billion, while Alibaba will claim a 25 percent share with revenue of $7.59 billion, eMarketer said.
