Dick's Sporting Goods Offering Incentives on Outerwear, Cabela's Keeping Silent

To reference my colleague Juan Lopez's article on sporting goods retailers, Deutsche Bank has published a report today on Dick's Sporting Goods DKS that stated, "We agree that the weather is not great for DKS, but our recent round of store checks, conversations with store associates, and advertising analyses tells us that most of the current seasonal price promotions are planned events. One exception would be a television ad that ran recently offering $25 cash bonus on some outerwear as well as 50% off Nike fleece. We have not seen any seasonal markdowns on Under Armour or The North Face product and limited markdowns on Columbia, although DKS is running what appear to be planned promotions on Spider and Marmot winter apparel." So the weather hasn't changed in the last two days, and it's hurting outerwear sales. 50% of Nike NKE fleece isn't a bad deal, and neither is a $25 cash bonus on select outerwear throughout the rest of the store. Dick's is enticing customers to come in and take advantage of outerwear deals BEFORE the snow hits. Cabela's CAB, do you have a rebuttal?
